Alene Toulany is a HSPRN trainee currently pursuing a master's degree in health services research at the Institute for Health Policy, Management, and Evaluation under the supervision of Dr. Astrid Guttmann.
Alene is also a paediatrician and adolescent medicine specialist at The Hospital for Sick Children (Sickkids). She received her medical degree in 2006 from Dalhousie University and completed her paediatric residency training in 2010 at the University of Toronto, where she was also chief resident. Alene then went on to pursue two years of subspecialty residency training in Adolescent Medicine at the University of Toronto and a VA Quality Scholars Fellowship through The Dartmouth College Institute for Health Policy & Clinical Practice in New Hampshire and Centre for Quality Improvement and Patient Safety at the University of Toronto.
Alene's master's thesis is on the association of primary care follow-up and mental health outcomes in youth with severe mental illness transitioning from child to adult services in Ontario. Her research aims to evaluate patterns in care utilization and the association between primary care continuity on the long-term mental health outcomes of transition-age youth with severe mental illness.
